Rainy Sundays and Birthdays...

Today it is raining and Sunday...my favorite combination.  I love when it rains on Sunday because it feels like you get permission to relax and put your feet up.  It's also a perfect day to have afternoon tea which my sister prepared for my Mom's birthday.  My sister is a genius when it comes to cooking and presentation.  I'm not kidding she is a culinary wizard who never ceases to amaze me.  We had open faced finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, lemon curd and jam, tea and coffee, champagne, and a cake that was the best cake I have ever put in my mouth (from scratch of course)

My mom is from Scotland and even though her memory is fading I'm positive that there was something very familiar and comforting about having afternoon tea on a rainy afternoon.  Happy Birthday Mom!

Lovely morning light...

I spent Easter weekend in Pa. at my parents farm.  It is truly a magical place and the morning light is stunning.  I walked around with my camera and tried to capture some of this light in different rooms.  The light is warm and makes everything glow no matter how cold it is outside.

Mom's hands...

My mother has such beautiful hands.  I have always admired them because I inherited my father's hands instead of hers.  We were out having coffee the other day and I took this photograph of her holding her cup.  She is a real "lady" and even though her mind is failing she always likes to look nice.

Black and white film...

I have been participating in some photographic exercises from Chris Orwig's book People Pictures.  I have to say that it's been interesting but very hard for me to keep up.  I think we are on week 8 but today I'm posting week 3.  The reason it's late is because it's black and white film.  After taking the pictures I had to send it away, which took over a week, and I just got it back.  So sad that it's such a bother to shoot film.  I shot film for 25 years and really resisted going to digital but I have to say that I love it.  I used to have a dark room with all the chemicals and such and I also loved that.  It was a challenge to go back to film and now I want to do more of it.  We were to pick 5 of our favorite pictures after shooting a full roll.  My favorites were of my niece.  Instead of 5 I picked 3.
